The Elected Representative School Board bill will face its first test in the new General Assembly tomorrow. The bill we be considered by the House Elementary Education Committee at a 10 a.m. hearing. We understand most parents can't trek to Springfield, but you can make your voice heard by filling out an online witness slip in support of the bill, HB 1774. Sign a Virtual Witness Slip--Remember to select PROPONENT. You also have the option to file written testimony if you want to make some specific points to the committee.

The sponsor, Rep. Rob Martwick, has been working hard to line up co-sponsors. But we need to have his back. Please fill out the witness slip and check to see if your rep is on the committee. If he/she is, give a call today. Committee members are listed here

Save Our School Clerks

CPS is getting ready to roll out a program that will force 117 schools to adopt a computerized, self-service payroll system, called Kronos, that will drastically reduce the number of school clerks.

Clerks perform a vital function in our school communities. More than 80 percent are African-American or Latino women and many of them live in the communities in which they work. They are on the front lines in our schools.

In the age of Trump, when immigrant students and their families fear for their safety, clerks provide a welcome and stable face for families in many schools. How can you support your school's clerks?
  • Sign this petition to CPS CEO Forrest Claypool and share with your school community.
  • Find out if your school has been chosen as one of the 117 initial schools in the program. Tell your principal you oppose the move and email us at info@parents4teachers,net to share information.
  • Join us at the March 22nd CPS board meeting. Sign up is Monday, March 20, 10:30 a.m., at cpsboe.org. Email us at [email protected] if you can attend.
